We had the honor and joy of meeting Pat in the Spring of 2015. We purchased a Wheaton Cairn Terrier and named him Brodie. He will be 6 this Spring. He is full of energy, loves to snuggle and loves his daily walks. Pat showed us her sheep and Llamas and let our kids feed the sheep with Frosted Mini Wheats. All you had to do was shake the box and they would come running! It was hysterical! We have several videos of Pat playing with “yellow” aka Brodie and his brothers and sisters. Bing around Pat made me think I should own 2 maybe 3 Cairns. I only regret not making that phone call early last Spring. We saw that her website was no longer up and wondered if something was wrong. Pat will be greatly missed. Sending our sincere condolences to her family. Dave and Kim Allan Wyandotte, MI

I have a Cairn Terrier named Brody who is such a special dog. I got him from Pat in 2013 and would bring out to her home in Fenton for grooming. I enjoyed chatting with Pat when I would stop out to see her and drop Brody off. She was always smiling and cheerful besides being very knowledgeable about caring for my little guy. I know that this past year was a struggle for her, but even this May we spoke about trying to set up a grooming date. My sincerest sympathy to Lee, Mike, Brad and all of Pat's family. She will be greatly missed. I hope that all of her Cairn babies will find new homes, and if I can be of any help with that please feel free to let me know. I would consider it a tribute to Pat's memory to help out.

I have so many wonderful memories of Pat. When I think about her, I think mostly of animals and children. She loved both so much. I first met Pat, when we were in kindergarten. She lived on Glastonbury in Rosedale Park. I remember as a young child going over to her house and she showed me the trick that Topper (a wonderful spaniel) did with his dog biscuit he would hold it on his muzzle then flip it up and catch it, when given the signal! There were so many dogs in Pat's life. From Tara and Smokey, both Weinrhiners, to Zsa Zsa and April, a miniature and standard Poodle. Who could forget Heidi and Brute When Pat and Dave were caring for Julie, two deliverymen came to the house to bring medical supplies. The first man knocked on the door and was met by 150 pound Brute ,who looked like a small bear. Brute, of course , barked at him. Fearing the monster dog , the deliveryman sent his partner to the door, who was met by Heidi, a 10 pound poodle. The second deliveryman went back to the first and gave him a hard time about being frightened by a little poodle. Neither dog would have hurt a flea, as the delivery men quickly learned. When Pat and I were both mothers of young children, we started each day with a call to one another. During one of these calls, she told me that Heidi, her little poodle, was circling under a chair and making a lot of funny noises. I asked her if there was a chance that the dog might be in labor and sure enough, she was. Wow, what a surprise! Unfortunately, the puppy of this unplanned event didn't make it. Pat always said that Heidi must have backed up to the fence! I remember bike rides together. skating in the Rosedale Park ice rink, Mrs. Young's dance class (at the club house) and being in Girl Scouts together (especially when Pat's mother was the leader)! We met at many a Rosedale Park June Day festivity and at Cooke Elementary School in Mrs. McDonough's music class, Mrs. Livingston's art class, Mr. Lang's science class and so on. I vividly recall Pat wearing a kilt that she made in Home Economics. We each made one and I remember her in it and her hair in a pony tail! When it was time for High School, Pat went to Mercy and I went to a school in Canada. In our sophomore year, I was home for Easter and Pat called to say there were some really cute baby ducks at the pet store and asked if I wanted to go with her to get some. I asked one of my parents, who said No! and then accompanied Pat and we each bought a baby duck! She took hers to her home and her dad had a fit. She brought hers to my house and we put them in my bath tub. When I had to return to school , I brought them with me, where my sister and I kept them in our room in the convent. The nuns quickly found them and the kindergarten teacher took them to her class for the rest of the school year. When school was out, we took the now full grown ducks to our cottage and a neighbor with a hen house kept them. We got to see them for years! In the next few years, our lives took us on different paths. We continued to see each other, just less. By 17, Pat had met Dave and he occupied most of her time! Dave was one of the nicest men I have ever known. He was so outgoing, pleasant and just plain fun. Pat and I each married within a few years of one another and we picked up where we left off after Bethany was born. Bethany was undoubtedly, the prettiest baby I have ever seen. Ian was born 2 weeks after my my husband, Dave, and I welcomed our daughter, Beth, and Julie was the same age as my son, Randy. Pat and Dave were amazing parents. Both of my kids said that the Holmes house was always the fun house, especially after Brad, Lee, Mike and Chris arrived. Even during the difficult times, both Pat and Dave focused on family, friends and plenty of fun activities. Not only were there plenty of children, but plenty of animals dogs, birds (Simon was the greatest!), horses, Cairns, Bouviers, sheep and llamas. When I was helping Pat after her second knee surgery, I asked her why she had so many animals. She said that they filled up her life and kept her busy enough that she would have to think about her losses. She certainly had more than her share of tragedy. Fortunately, the Holmes-Squiers-Kowalski clan is large and close. Pat adored her sons, her daughter-in-law, her grandchildren, her sister and brothers, their spouses and children and all her cousins and their families. She also had a wonderful circle of friends and neighbors. That's what sustained Pat. That was kept her smiling. God Bless you, Pat! We will all miss you. -Cindi Chrisco

Dear Lee, Mike & Brad- so many years have passed, but I will always remember our time together as the kids on Kirkshire. I will never forget your mom's warmth and kindness, which we could always feel in addition to her resilience and strength. I haven't seen her for a long time, but I will miss her. The world was better with her in it.

I will truly miss Pat! She was such a strong person and very courageous. She just kept going no matter what... and with a smile. To all of her family... you’ve had a great role model to keep in your memories and in your hearts! Watch for those signs she sends you from God... they will be there for sure. She’ll still be keeping you close! I am very grateful to have known her and to have had two of her pups. They’ve been a joy! Again, so sorry for the loss of your beautiful Mom, Grandma, Sister, and Aunt. She was one of the good ones! May God heal your broken hearts.

Pat, we were introduced by The Bluewater Bouvier Club and since then became friends. At the beginning, you were one of my mentors when I decided to be a breeder. You were always very honest with your teachings which I respected. You’re at peace now with no pain and God’s giving you the hugs that we can’t. You will be missed.

I am so sad to hear of Pat's passing. She was such a sweet and caring person. At our first gift exchange Bouvier des Flandres luncheon with friends, I received a cup from Pat that has been my favorite cup ever since. I’m truly going to really miss her. Great lady, always with a smile, and an inspiration for all animal lovers.
