Obituary
Obituary of Geraldine Ann Pletzke
Our mother, Geraldine, was a warm, caring, fun loving woman who always made sure everyone was taken care of at all times.
Our mom had a wonderful sense of humor that everyone loved. She loved to joke around and be silly and make everyone laugh. She always put a smile on everyone's face. Growing up, our friends always enjoyed coming over because they enjoyed talking to our mom and they found it easy to talk to her and enjoyed her company . Everyone loved her great sense of humor and joking around, fun personality.
Our mom, Geraldine, was born May 18, 1945, to Mary and William Weiske. She grew up in Detroit and attended Rosary Catholic High school, class of 63'. She then started working at Hudson's Department store where she met our dad, Thomas Pletzke. They were married in April of 1972 and then in December 1973, I was born, her daughter, Genevieve and then in September 1976, my brother Matthew came along.
Mom always made everyday special. She was always thoughtful and would always do small gestures, such as leaving notes in our lunch boxes ans other special gestures of the such, so we knew she was always thinking about us. She went on to continue doing the same thoughtful gestures for her two granddaughters, Emily and Lailah and her grandson Austin.
She would color pictures with them and hang them up around her house. She would play board games with them and read books and watch Disney movies. She would blow bubbles with the kids outside and do fun activities outside like the velcro ball catch game.
Mom taught my brother and I to work hard, follow our dreams, be respectful of others, have good manners, be loving and caring, thoughtful and compassionate. She was always there for us. We were both lucky to gain mom's silly, crazy, joking around, great sense of humor.
Mom grew up with a talent for art, painting and photography. She also played the piano and liked to sing and dance. She grew up, raised in a family of Euchre players. There was always Euchre games going at family gatherings and family reunions. The love of a good euchre game was passed down to my brother, myself, and my daughter, Emily. We'll play any chance we get to. Aaaah, Mom, I know there's some good Euchre tournaments going on up there in Heaven with you and your sister Rosemary and your brother Bill and your mom and dad. ( Are you and Aunt Rosemary euchre partners, giving one another your little signals ? hahaha) Now you are looking down, watching over your two other sisters, Mary Louise and Margaret and watching over us, your children, Matthew and myself, Genevieve and your granddaughters, Emily and Lailah.
Mom absolutely loved penguins, anyone that truly knows her, knows that. She had a collection of stuffed animal penguins and any penguins you could imagine around her house. Sometimes she would even give a penguin away to Lailah and Emily and their friends as a special little gesture. Mom enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She loved music and dancing.
Mom was always easy to talk to and even starting back in our high school days through adulthood, mom was our friend, as well as being our mom and parent. She was a cool , understanding, easy going mom.
Our memories of Mom, while growing up, were wonderful, fun and treasured. We as a family, went camping every summer. We played board games, watched movies as a family, played hide and go seek in the dark, especially when our friends were over and when we had sleepovers. Mom and Dad would play hide and go seek in the dark with us and scare us and all of our friends. We sat out on our back patio a lot during the summertime and played games and did sparklers and swam in our pool. Whenever we watched movies as a family, or when we had our friends over, we had grilled cheese sandwiches, and lots of snack, pop, Doritos with melted cheese and ice cream bowls with Sanders hot fudge melted on top.
Mom and Dad always had family gatherings and parties at our house. Our mom played the piano and sang songs, along with her siblings, especially with my Uncle Bill and some of my cousins. Definitely lots of euchre was played at these gatherings. I also remember Christmas time with lots of family traditions, ones that I enjoy carrying on now. All of these are fond memories we had growing up, that Mom made special. All of these memories will be treasured forever by my brother Matthew and myself and we'll continue to pass these wonderful memories and traditions to our daughters, Geraldine's granddaughters, Emily and Lailah.
We love you and miss you Mom/Grandma................................ Love, Genevieve, Matthew, Emily and Lailah. xoxoxo
Geraldine is survived by: her daughter, Genevieve, her son, Matthew, her two Granddaughters, Emily and Lailah, two sisters, Mary Louise and Margaret and nieces and nephews.
