Obituary of Barbara Jean Riemenschneider

Barbara Jean McMahon Riemenschneider died peacefully in Saline, Michigan on August 24, 2012 at 89 years of age. Barbara was born to John and Edna (Lambert) McMahon on September 4, 1922 in Los Angeles CA. Barbara grew up in Ann Arbor and graduated from Ann Arbor High School and Michigan State University with a degree in Home Economics. She married Richard W. Riemenschneider in 1946 and celebrated 55 years of marriage to her soul mate, who passed away in 1999. Barbara worked for many years at the Treasure Mart and collected antiques and "uniques". She was an expert seamstress, quilter, canoe paddler and enjoyed nature at its most primitive, traveling most of the United States with Rick in their Airstream. After retirement, she wintered at Riverwoods Plantation in Florida where she led yoga, canoed and was known for her hugs. Barbara is remembered with much love by her children and their spouses, Zoe (Mike) Braunz, Carey (Roger) Marsh and Richard E. (Terri) Riemenschneider, grandchildren Monica and Andrea Braunz, Laura Marsh and Erin (Joshua) Smith, great grandchildren, Madison, Aden and Jackson Braunz and sister Jane Richardson, sister in law, Grace (Bruce) Love and brother in law, John (Nancy) Streit. Barb had many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in Michigan and Florida, especially Jane (Charles) Hayes, whom she called her sister. Barb was predeceased by her sister in law, Esther Streit and brother in law, Wayne Richardson, step father, Albert Lutz, step brothers, Robert and Albert Lutz. A Celebration of Life is planned for the afternoon of Sunday, September 30th at the Milan Senior Center at 45 Neckel Court, Milan, Michigan, from 1 to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to donate to Saline Evangelical Homes, Seasons Hospice of Michigan or Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel Florida in Barbara's memory.
