Obituary of John Ermond Burris

John Ermond (Jack) Burris, 93, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020, at his home in Lapeer, Michigan. He was born in Pontiac, Michigan, on June 2, 1927, the son of John E. and Rachel (Ellwood) Burris. He graduated from Lapeer High School in 1946. Jack and Ila M. Williamson were married on June 21, 1947, at First Presbyterian Church of Lapeer. In 1952, they purchased acreage in Lapeer and Jack became a custom residential builder, following in his fathers footsteps. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lapeer, a trustee, charter member of the Brown Baggers (mens club at the church), and overseer of the renovation of the sanctuary and association room in 1992. Jack will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather; a man who loved to travel, to sing while working, and to tease his family; and all with a ready smile and a gentle Christian spirit. Jack is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ila; sons Mark (Karen), William (Lauren), Timothy (Maureen), and daughter Annette (James) Adams; grandchildren Maja (Drew) Hale, Sten Burris, Taron Burris (Brieh) Guevara, Ian (Rachel) Burris, Jeremy (Jessica) Adams, and Joshua Adams; great grandchildren Mason Adams, Magnus and Oskar Hale, Benjamin Burris, and Theodore Guevara; step great grandchildren Devan, Jenna, and Kathie Bradley and Sofia Guevara; and brother Robert Burris. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ellwood and Richard. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution may give to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund of Lapeer or the Lapeer County Community Foundation Fund #47 Ronald C. and Abi E. Warner Scholarship Fund. A private memorial service will be held in the future.
