Obituary of Norma Jean Thurlow
Norma Jean (Lock) Thurlow, passed away March 23, 2021 at the age of 85. Beloved step-mother of Laurie Kennedy, Steve Thurlow, and Chris (Tina) Thurlow. Preceded in death by loving husband Edward Thurlow. Grandma of Justin, Christina, Joseph, Andrew, Jenna and Jacob. Loved by her cousins Shawnee (Ric) Jones and Lisa Dennison. Loved by friends too numerous to list. She loved and doted on her 6 grandkids.
Norma was born in Kingsville Ontario on September 30, 1935 and moved to Detroit as a teenager, attending Redford High School. She worked as a dental office manager for 62 years and never forgot the name of a patient, their kids, how many dogs and cats they had or where they went on vacation. She could make a visit to the dentist seem almost pleasant. Many of her former patients kept in touch with her after she retired.
Norma loved animals, especially her beagle Sugar and her cats Benjamin and Mumma. She was generous with contributions to the Michigan Humane Society and so many other charities that her mail was always flooded with address labels and calendars.
Norma was a courageous lady and loved to travel the world. She flew alone to Australia when she was 20 and was always planning a vacation somewhere. But her favorite vacation was going to cottages on Lake Erie and later Lake Huron, which she did almost every summer of her life since she was little.
Norma’s family would like to thank the folks at Evergreen Health Services and St. Joseph Mercy Hospice for caring for Norma, and thanks to all of Norma’s friends for their love and support.
There will be no funeral service at Norma’s request.
