When I had an emergency hospital stay, Bob & Sue immediately arranged for home-cooked meals & more. One day afterward, I was feeling well enough to cut the front lawn. Suddenly, a car squealed to a stop right in the middle of the road. Bob jumped out waving his arms, concerned I was back in the saddle too soon. That was Bob, always looking out for his family, neighbors, friends and neighborhood. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered always. Marty West & Keith Vreeland

Sue and Michelle As you know, I am deeply saddened that Bob is no longer here to share with you, and all of us, his warm and pleasant charm and his kind and helpful heart. While only you can know the depth of your sorrow, just remember that your memories will heal your heart and grief abates.

Dear Sue and Michelle; I truely sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Bob will be remembered as a family man, I.V.A. board member, community activist, and a very helpful person. Bob helped my family during the late 80's. He provided carpool service for my daughters, during that peroid. Both of my daughters had perfect attendance during that period, and I 'm greatful for his assisstance. I'll miss seeing Bob on the streets of Indian Village doing things to make the neighberhood better.

Bob was my 'supervisor' when I was a Detroit Parks and Recreation playground leader at the Thirkell School [north of Grand Boulevard, just west of 12th Street] in the Summer of 1967. His counsel during and after the 'rebellion' helped to shape my lifework. He also taught me by precept and example not to swing for the fences everytime; that solid line drives advance the runner virtually every time in the game of life. Richard Levey

I always looked forward to seeing Bob when he worked downtown with Joan and Paul. I may have had a bad day but when he stopped and talked to me with that big smile, I forgot my troubles. If only there were more people like Bob. Kind, caring and a true friend and neighbor. His passion and love for Detroit was so strong. You better not say bad things about the D to Bob. We all are better people for having known Bob. Dormez Bien, mon ami.

Dear Sue and Michelle, our deepest condolences to you. You are in our prayers that God will comfort you during your time of mourning. We get comfort in visualizing Roy meeting Bob at the Pearly Gates, and wondering what kind of mischief the two of them will get into. Heaven will never be the same.

Thanks to all who have shared memories; I have enjoyed reading your thoughts. Our family has always been fun loving and a bit zany. Bob was the instigator for much of the hilarity and we all will miss that at our family gatherings. After a difficult and brave fight,he survived this long due to the strength and grace of his wife,my Sister-in-law, Suzanne Nye.

As a teammate w Bob on Dee's Softball Team during the '50s. I remember how he solved the problem of runners going to 2nd base trying to prevent double plays by not sliding. Bob would throw directly to 1st, if runner didn't slide, they'd get bopped! Problem solved! A great teammate. A fun guy.

I played softball with Bob while a teammate on the Dee's softball team. He was ever the gentleman and always greeted his friends with a smile. I am sure he will be the starting second baseman for St. Peter. Ted

Dear Susan, Please accept my sympathy for your loss of Bob. have known Bob and the Van Deventers for 70 years. His Aunt Helen was my first grade teacher; his dad, who I loved like a father, was my mentor and supervisor in the P&R Baseball School. That's how I first met Bob---thru his dad.
