i am late finding out about his passing, but still wanted to share my condolences.. Mr Riggs was my principal at Eberwhite and he has crossed my mind many times the last 40 years. He was good man..stern and a leader but also very cool and fair. I got in trouble a few times, we always worked it out. He taught me magic tricks; like how to make my thumb look like it wasnt attached to my hand lol and he gave me my first kitten ever in Kindergarten and i have loved cats ever since 3 Couldnt have asked for a better principal, he was my favorite. Rest in Peace Mr Riggs.

I adored Mr. Riggs who was my teacher for 5th and 6th grades. He was unique and fascinating the one about whom I always refer when asked about the most influential people in my life. The staff at Mason was in awe of him (from a former colleague of his) he was a Top Gun in our world. He was my inspiration for always working for excellence instead of settling for mediocrity. He taught us Christmas carols in German and we gave a concert for the school. I can still belt out O Tannenbaum in German to impress and amaze. He and Mrs. Ralph were a pair of shoes for the Halloween parade, each taking a step and the other then following. He always popped peppermint life savers. He took us to Selfridge to sit in a jet. To be in Mr. Riggs class was to be elite. Everybody wanted him.we got him for two years, and have benefitted from his guidance for a lifetime. What a life well-lived.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I tried numerous times to contact my favorite 5th and 6th grade teacher, but could not find him. He was a major reason I went into education. I taught elementary school and then became a principal. I remember all of the fun things he did in the classroom and tried to emulate him. I think he would have gotten a kick out of the fact that the quietest girl in class found her voice and tried to make a difference as he certainly did.

I remember being principal for a day at Eberwhite and learning that the public address speaker had to have classical music playing 'for the children' AND that it would probably be impossible to fill Milt's shoes.

Milt was only my principal for one year of my 32 year career, but was always my favorite, and the only one to give me a truly honest evaluation. I still think about him every time I drive by that beautiful white house off I-94. He will be missed.

What a guy! My loss was in not knowing Milt better. I met him only through our more recent Air Force pilot class reunions. There is no question he lived life to the fullest, in whatever realm he chose. Our formation has lost a member to a higher calling.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Riggs' passing. I was a student at Eberwhite with him as our principal for all of my 6 years at Eberwhite. He was always outgoing, kind and engaging and we were lucky to have him. I have even baffled my children with his thumb removal trick which he is famous for, in my book.

Mr. Riggs! He was the principal in our kids elementary school for their entire years there. I will never forget the first time we entered the school building and heard classical music playing in the hallways. He did this, to my delight, all the elementary years of our kids. We will remember him with fondness.

My dear friend I have known since we met in AF Cadet training in 1951. We went to Korea together and flew combat from the same base. Milton taught me to play gin rummy which we played every waking hour we did not fly missions. We both maintained that gin rummy got us through Korea. A true friend I shall miss, but never forget. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Riggs family during this sad time. It is hard to believe that we have been friends with Milt and Peggy for thirty plus years, all from an ad my parents placed in the local newspaper looking for dock space for their new pontoon boat. Milt and I have had many wonderful occasions flying pilotco-pilot together above southern Lower Michigan. You and your family will always have a special place in our hearts. We have been blessed to have crossed paths with Milt and his family. His wit and sense of humor was delightful! He will be sorely missed. With Much Love, Kelly & Shawn Kasper and Family.

Milt was my first principal when I began teaching at Lincoln Consolidated Schools in 1970. I will never forget the support and kindness he showed to me as a new teacher. I recently retired after 36 years of teaching and Milt remains one of the best principals I ever had. His family can be very proud of the man he was. He was a fine example of what an educator should be.

I met Milton when he gave a terrific presentation at the Yankee Air Museum in either the late 1990's or early 2000's. We were so delighted we had him back with his lovely wife for a second presentation (and maybe a third time too). His photos taken on training missions from his fighter jet were incredible and beautiful and he told us that in that era, the fighter pilots and their planes were often the only air traffic up there since there were no commercial jets at that time. He had the sky to himself. Again a wonderful and fascinating man that will forever leave an impression on me. Godspeed Lt. Col. Riggs!!!!
