I have few real friends, but I always counted Bill among my very dearest. A wonderful, gentle and compassionate man and fantastic artist. I knew Bill since 1977 when I got home from the Air Force and decided to investigate art as a possible career. I had taken some art lessons in Germany and needed to know where I might find certain supplies. Someone back then suggested callin C.C.S. and someone there told me that if anyone could help me it would be Bill Girard. I called him and from that moment we became good friends. I knew his partner Gary as well, and I know Bill is with him now. I miss him greatly. Although we didn't see each other very often whenever we did, it was as if no time had passed. It's difficult to realize that he's gone. I guess I'll see him again. If anyone was close to the muses and the mystery beyond being, I guess it was Bill. I guess I'll see him again in some way not very long from now. Life is a dream afterall. I love you Bill!

I was very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was a kind and generous man, a remarkable and inimitable artist. As a teacher he was a patient and thoughtful guide with an incredible knowledge of the crafts behind making art. I want to send my condolences to Chris and his family for the loss of this wonderful man. Love, Diana

I wanted to say goodbye, for Carole too. You were our big brother. I was always in such awe of you. Your genius was infinite. I remember the Flash Gordon cityscape you had made. I liked to draw, but I never had a hope or prayer of being like you. I so enjoyed our last visit, sharing coffee and sweets with you and Mollie. We will love you always. Vaya con Dios.

Well, dearest Bill, you're now sharing oft-told stories & bad jokes with Anthony! What wonderful times we've had together, from the gathering of friends in your beautiful garden in the summer, to the meetings we had about school issues! You are truly the Buddha of Love and Compassion, with a heart so big and full of loving kindness for the two & four-legged beings in your Life. Thank you for your Love, support, friendship and for being my dear friend and brother. I miss you greatly!

I still treasure my letter from Bill Girard thanking me for writing a story about the group of seven professors - including Bill - who meet weekly at Border's in Birmingham. They all taught at the former College of Creative Studies in Deroit.
