Obituary of Emma Elizabeth Adair

Elizabeth Adair, was born August 5, 1915 in Detroit, and died September 1, 2013 in Dearborn. Loving mother of Susan Ewing of Oakland, CA, Ellen (Keith) Camann of Okemos, MI, Robin Michael (Connie) Adair of Pleasant Ridge, MI, Nancy Adair of Royal Oak, MI, James (Diane) Adair of Rochester, MI and David (Kris) Adair, Louisville, CO. Dear sister of Dorothy Talbott of Littleton, CO. Grandmother of 14 and great grandmother of 6. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robin; and siblings Fritz Adams and Marge Adams. As a teenager Elizabeth moved with her family to Birmingham, Michigan. She went to Albion College where she met Robin. After graduation in 1938 she taught school for 3 years. She and Robin raised their six children in Birmingham. Betty and Robin were avid golfers at Orchard Lake Country Club. After raising their children Betty became a successful Realtor with Max Broock. After Robin's death at age 60, Betty spent her considerable energy on family, career, volunteer work and travel. Betty enjoyed socializing with friends, playing bridge, was an avid reader and had a great interest in politics. She was an active volunteer at the Birmingham Community House and was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Birmingham. Although she was still very active, at 83 she decided to move to a Henry Ford Village in Dearborn and enjoy the many activities offered there. She lovingly planned to remain as independent as possible, never wanting to be a burden to her children. She quickly established many new friendships through her bridge club and volunteer work. She was still swimming 40 lengths of the pool two days a week shortly before her death. She had an amazing spirit and joy of life. She will be missed by all who knew her. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Henry Ford Village, 15101 Ford Rd., Dearborn, MI. Gathering at 10am in the Edison room, followed by the service at 11am in the Chapel. Her family suggests donations to the Henry Ford Village Scholarship Fund or Albion College.
