I first met Mildred and Donald at the Balch Elementary School in the 1930s. We moved to Black Bottom around the same time. We moved from 935 Medbury and the Hankins moved from Palmer. We all attended The Greater Macedonia Baptist Church during the war yeas and sang in the choir and served on the usher Board. The last time I saw Mildred was at a funeral service for Jesse James at Plymouth around 1978. R. . I. P. dear friend.

The grief of losing a loved one can be great but, God gives us comfort and a greater hope in the Holy Scriptures. I hope that you can take comfort in his promises found at John 528, 29 and 1 Corinthians 1520-22. Please accept my condolences.

I am so sorry to read about your big sis. I can see she was an inspiration to so many. She is terribly missed. May you and all who knew and loved her find comfort in the wonderful promise of a resurrection to come. Jesus said that all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. -John 528,29. What a wonderful expectation!

I know you are so proud of your mom, she left a wonderful legacy. She was known by many and will be terribly missed by a great many. I can see you are a lover of God's Word and that's where I draw comfort from. May the words recorded at Acts 936-41; 2415 bring you and your family encouragement and hope.

Musically, Mrs. Mildred J. Dobey increasingly became the reason I looked forward to attending Southeastern High in Detroit every day. She exposed me to music that helped shape and transform my imagination as a composer. I taught my nine young children to perform Randall Thompsons Alleluia, thanks to Mrs. Dobeys influence. She even endorsed my joining the Brazeal Dennard Chorale years later. There are so many reasons why I will always remember, and be grateful to, Mrs. Mildred J. Dobey!

I was honored to work with Mrs. Dobey for 13 years in the music ministry at Plymouth United Church of Christ. She was not only my colleague and my friend, but one of my favorite accompanists. She is already missed in the Detroit music community! May she rest in peace!

Having grown up in Detroit, it never ceases to amaze me that I was surrounded and honed by so much incredible talent. Thank you so much Dr. Dobey for believing in a strange kid from Brooklyn who wanted to be a musician but had no clue. You were my first accompanist and I always got Superior ratings that I attributed to your professionalism and grace. You seemed to see it in me and you urged it out. One of the greats in my life. Thank you for ushering me into the Wonderful World of Music.
