Mr. Bobby was my absolute favorite person to hang out with at my mom's work. My family is the one who 'adopted' him and he was my sister and I's absolute favorite dinner guest. Bobby always loves to talk with us and I would draw him pictures that he would later hang up in his room. He called us his girls, 'Bobby Girls'. I remember one day we snuck him out of the nursing home and took him to dinner and invited his sister, his only living relative left. He told the best stories about what it was like traveling with the Supremes and how hard it was for him to succeed in the music industry being black. Bobby was family to me and I miss him so much. The first time I met him he immediately told me I looked like a violin player and after explaining that I played clarinet, he told me you'd had better hurry up and learn so I don't go 'round confusing people. I remember when his sister passed and he said one day he'd be with her and he'd watch me grow up from afar. He'd smile and say that When I die I'll be playn' jazz and makin' sure you n' Syd (my younger sister) stay outta trouble. Now I am 15 and it's been five whole years without him. I miss him with every fiber of my being and can't even begin to explain how amazing of a person he was. When I get the chance I like to listen to the vinyl records he gave us of the Supremes, and I pretend he's still here and I talk to him. He was honest to God one of the very best men I've ever met and anyone who got to meetknow him was blessed with his kindness.

for some reason Bobby came to mind today and I sadly learned of his passing. We met in Puerto Rico in the 60's and my daughter and I enjoyed his company when he played for the Supremes in Pittsburgh. He was a fine man as well as a great talent.

Bob, I will always remember the long conversations we had at ML King. We talked about jazz and the Detroit Jazz Festival. Talking with you was a great relief from the rigors of my counseling job. Next time we meet I will have my bongo drums so we can get a jam session going. Rest in peace my friend.
