Obituary of Leonard S. Minkwic, Jr.

Minkwic, Leonard S., Jr., of Grosse Pointe Farms, celebrated his 88th birthday on January 19, 2013, with close family and friends. He died on March 29, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Joyce (nee Hunt) and his son, Mark (MJ). He was pre-deceased by his son Chad and by three brothers, Donald, Robert and James. This generous, loving man, "Uncle Mink," will be missed by his nieces, Susan Pospiech and Kim Beasinger and by nephews, Phillip, Jim and Jeff. Many cousins and especially three young grandchildren, Nabilah, Bailey and Gloria Jean and special friend Renee Henderson mourn his passing. Mr. Minkwic attended Detroit Denby High School and graduated from Detroit de LaSalle High School. He served in the Infantry in the European Theater during WWII, after which he worked in his father's business while attending Wayne State University. He then began a distinguished career as an educator with the Detroit Public Schools. His Northeastern High students remember his dramatic re-creations of historical events. He later served as Department Head at Central High School and Principal at Cooley High and Murphy Middle Schools. Mr. Minkwic then was elected Vice President of OSAS, the Organization of School Administrators and Supervisors. In this capacity he served the needs of approximately 1, 200 members and was re-elected several times. He was a persistent jogger and swimmer and a determined golfer.
