Carol, Dave and the Gonzalez family, My heart felt condolences on Ray's passing. The years growing up on State Park and spending our summers playing Canasta in your back yard are just faint memories now, though I clearly remember how devoted you all were to taking care of Ray. Though there is pain for all of you, Ray is in a better place, no longer limited by an earthly body and free from any pain he may have felt through the years. He's rejoicing in Heaven with God now!! With the wheelchair cast aside he's able to walk, dance, and move freely for the first time in decades! Yes, he's in a much better place today. For those that remain, my heart and prayers are with you. May you feel God's loving arms around you wiping away the tears. With love, Jean (Wojtowicz) Mathews

Dearest Carol, Please extend my sincere condolences to your family. I feel blessed to have been witness these last 12 years to your unfailing love and devotion to Ray. This small slice of his lifetime allowed me to witness a little bit of Ray's wit and addiction to any professional sport on television. What a thrill for me to bring a smile to his face just by bringing him a greasy McDonald's breakfast. I am honored to have been in his presence. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love to you all, Linda Happel

Dear Carol and the rest of the family, I feel very privileged to have known Ray for a short time. I know he will be missed by so many especially my son Joshua. He loved his Uncle very much and always talked about him. They shared their love of sports together. I have never met a person who faced such challenges as Ray with such a positive attitude. Anytime I have ever seen him he was always smiling. That is just a reflection of what a loving and caring family you all were to him. The care and sacrifice you have all made to take such exceptional care of your brother, son, uncle, and brother-in-law is such an inspiration to all of us. May you somehow find peace in your time of loss knowing that Ray is now in a better place. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Love, Andrea

To Ray's Loving Family I am so glad Ray received my email. I hope it brought a smile to his face. We were friends for such a long time and I wanted him to know how often he was on my mind. Until I moved from the Warren area I spent many hours with Ray and I never heard him complain about his illness. He always had a smile and we had such fun talking about our days at CLHS and the years before he became so sick. We laughted a lot. I will miss my good friend but take comfort that he is at peace and in a much better place. My prayers are with Ray and the wonderful family that took such good care of him for so long.

Ray was always so sweet to me. I remember when I told him about going into my apprenticeship for becoming a toolmaker and he was really interested in my math courses. We didn't have long conversations about algebra, but he always showed interest. When he became really ill in these last months, he and I discussed many of the amazing things he accomplished before he became paralyzed...such as learning to fly, his plans for future employment, etc. One might think about how sad that he didn't accomplish what he had set out to do...but how many people have you ever met who were always kind, always happy to see you, always ready to listen to you and always happy for your successes in life Ray touched people in ways that many of us who are perfectly mobile may never be able to do.

I have many fond memories of Ray, more so since he stayed with Carol and David, at one time living just around the corner from my family. I am Ray's cousin and occasionally when I visited I would give him his beloved cup of coffee. I always said he was the fastest coffee drinker in the world-I was amazed! I loved the look in Ray's eyes when he was being a stinker-it was the cutest little boy look-he just loved a good joke or to make someone laugh with his good sense of humor!

I can never think of Ray without remembering all the crazy, fun double dates we had in high school. He even visited me a few times when he came to California. Ray was always the same, happy and enjoying life. Ray's carefree life was short but he packed in more than most do in a life time. He was so fortunate to have such a wonderful family. My sympathies. To Ray, walk free.
