Obituary of Harry T. Kirk
Harry T. Kirk, Age 90, October 12, 2012.
Beloved husband of Leona E (Hendrickson) Kirk for 68 years. Loving father of Judy (Larry) Myers of Algonac, MI, Shirley (Ted) Renaud of Reinholds, PA, Harry Jr. (Marjorie-deceased '95) of Corpus Christy, Texas, Andy of Savannah, Georgia and Bill (deceased '93). Also survived by Six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, and many nieces and nephews all over the U.S.
Harry served in the Armed Forces after receiving a B.S. degree from Alma College and went on to earn his M.S. degree from Wayne State University while working as a Psychologist for the Veteran's Administration. He worked in Human Resources at both the Ford Motor Company and Federal Department Stores where he remained for over 35 years. He then worked at the Butler Associates, Employment Agency and New York Carpet World until his retirement in 1988. Moving from north Detroit, Harry and his family resided in Cranbrook Village, Southfield, MI. He was continually active at Northbrook Pres Church as an Elder, committee member and in the Presbytery of Michigan. He served on many community and public school committees . After Harry and Leona both retired they moved to their family vacation home on Lake Huron in Alpena, MI where they resided until 2002. For over 15 years they were active members of the community and made many longtime friends. They were both active members of the Alpena Pres Church. Harry was also an avid supporter and member of the Alpena Optimist Club in which he served as President for a number of years. He was a volunteer with The Jessie Besser Museum, Alpena Soup Kitchen, Water Warriors, a youth association and a mental health support group. His goal was to grow and assist others to grow in faith and understanding of persons of a variety of backgrounds. Harry and Leona became an important part of the group of citizens responsible for development of Alpena Village, a new retirement community in Alpena. Together they saw this task to completion after Harry cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony in 2001. 10 years ago Harry and Leona moved to Algonac to be near their Michigan relatives. For the past 6 months they have resided in The Village of East Harbor, Chesterfield, MI where he passed quietly with Leona near. Over the past 68 years Harry and Leona "Nonie" worked and played together raising their children and training many dogs along the way. Huxley, Baer and Gladys on, ONE leash, walking with Harry were a common and enjoyed sight in the subdivision over the years. Together, they swam in the pool and jumped the waves of Lake Huronthey were his constant companions. Always active in civic and religious endeavors, Harry was a loved and respected member of each of the communities in which he chose to live. His friendship and compassion left a lasting impression on all of those who were blessed to know him, no matter the circumstances. He lived a life devoted to his wife and family as well as his church and community; a life filled with love, courage and grace.
