Alan,Nancy,Lyle,Terry, Peter and families Please accept my heart felt sympathies. Uncle Lorne was truly unique and surely the most intelligent person I have known. I was very proud of his accomplishments and level of education. His generosity, kindness, advise and sense of humour will sorely be missed. In the last number of decades, he has been head of the family and has now passed the torch to Uncle Colin. As Janet eluded to, Lorne's letters were always welcomed and most interesting. And yes, we did have to keep a dictionary handy to ensure we enjoyed the full impact of his writings. His last visit to Ottawa was just for a few hours but we thoroughly enjoyed catching up. I do regret not being able to say goodbye in person, but perhaps it is better to remember him in his prime. Love, John

Lyle, Alan and families, Please accept my most sincere condolences on the loss of your father. While I had limited contact with him so many years ago, I too was struck by is considerably intelligence and insight but also his ability to translate and share his knowledge with others and on a level they'd comprehend. I accompanied him to the scene of a J.L. Hudson warehouse fire he was investigating back in the midlate 60's. With patients and incredible wordsmithing, he was able to explain to this (then) teenager, the how and why of the fire. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get downstate this weekend to attend your father's memorial but I will make every attempt to do so. Chris Carter

Dear Alan and Nancy, We are so sad for you on the loss of great-grandpa Finlayson. Thank-you for taking the risk of allowing us and Nathan to know him. We certainly would have missed out to have never met him and we surely hope that Nathan will always remember him. When I asked Nathan if he had a special memory about great-grandpa he said,I remember that he loves me. That is the best memory I can think of. May the comfort and hope of the Lord sustain you in your loss.

Dear Finlayson family, Feelings of sadness and great nostalgia swept over me when I learned of Lorne Finlayson's death. He was always very good to me during the years he was in my life. I remember him with great fondness. As I remember back through the years I realize he made a bigger impact on me than I could ever have imagined. He was one of my first employers and a key influence and support in my choice of nursing career. He treated me with great respect and allowed me to retain self confidence during a very difficult time in my life. My sincerest sympathies. Debbie.
