I met Steve in 1993 when he joined the security department at SaraLee in a small town in W. Michigan. I think we became great friends because we shared the same type of humor. Over the years he helped me with personal issues. He was there for me when my mother and father passed away. We watched the Redwings many times. I have honestly never met a more honest and caring man. I will miss him every day of what remains of my life. Steve say hi to my parents.

I worked with Steve for 9+ years and GTS, and one thing was always certain, I never walked away from his desk without either smiling or laughing. Thanks Steve for always brightening everybody's day. You will be sadly missed. I'll bet you are up there right now cracking everybody up at this very moment!

I only had the privledge of meeting Steve in person once. Yes, there was lots of beer and laughter involved at that meeting. But I spoke with him on the phone every day for several years, sometimes multiple times a day. His gruff exterior hid a kind heart and wonderful sense of humor. He made the job of workers compensation less of a drugery. When his company moved to another insurance company, I did not speak with Steve every day, but we stayed in touch. I always enjoyed our conversations and his dry (sometimes dark) sense of humor. I was heart broken when he told me about his diagnosis and I am heart broken today to hear my friend has passed away. I will miss him. God speed my friend. Connie

I remember Steve fondly - working with him on claims was a pleasure. It never failed, he always made me laugh before a conversation was over. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Man, I don't know how many years I worked with or around Steve, but I do know these things. I had the utmost respect for this man. I had been fired by him, basically re-hired by him, all as a driver, worked alongside him in the office, dealt with his timely office jokes, went to him in times of need for personal problems that I had and he was always, always there and never once put me aside. It would of been an honor to have been a part of his family so my prayers have and will continue to go out for the loved ones in his family. And, it was an honor to be a part of the Gainey family with him. You'll be missed dearly Steve. RIP my friend.

Miss you, Steve. You were a good friend - always had an ear to listen and valuable advice to offer. You taught me a lot and you always knew how to make a room roar in laughter. I will miss all the stories you'd tell me about your kids and grandkids. See you on the other side, my friend.

I worked with Steve at Gainey. I had the honor of knowing him and working closely with him on a number of things. He was a good man, and had the highest integrity for what he did. I will miss Steve and the funny e-mails he would send to some of us from time to time. Go in Peace my friend. You will be missed but not forgotten

I think this is the same Steve Horvath that I went to school with at St Martha's, Stout, & Edsel Ford H.S. in Dearborn. I remember what a great guy he was. Only sorry that I lost touch after leaving H.S. Glad to see that he had a successful career & is loved & cared about by so many.
