I was very fortunate in my life to be blessed with three Grandmothers, all different and all wonderful women. My Grandma Dey jumped right into that role the moment that I met her. I really enjoyed spending Sunday evenings listening to her take on various hospital-related, political, and other topics that the grown ups discussed. As I grew older and transitioned from a spectator to a part of the conversation, I continued to be impressed by her sharp intellect.I am grateful to have always felt nothing but encouragement and kindness from Grandma Dey, whether it was in support of the time I spent in Brazil as a missionary or my pursuit of a career and a family of my own. I am glad that some of my children were able to get to know her and vice versa and look forward to see her distinct smile again someday.

One always felt very comfortable around Eileen. I did not know her well but felt right at home the very first time we met. Such an open and caring person. She was genuinely interested to find out all about this sister in law of Tim's. She was a person that one can look to for guidance even though gone but not forgotten.

Eileen always amazed me...she continued to be an active member of Our Shepherd into her 90's, always looking for ways to serve. And she always had very thoughtful (and sometimes difficult!) questions in our Bible studies together. Her mind was strong and thoughtful, and her heart clearly belonged to Jesus! We will miss her here at Our Shepherd, but at the same time are joyful she is in the arms of her Savior for eternity.

Mom was always there for me. Whether it was a phone call in the night - she would always pickup and talk usually after she had retired to bed (my being 3 time zones away), or if I had to talk out troubles as a teen late at night buying me a burger being on-call at night at the hospital. Being a nurse she was there to patch me together more times than I could remember after being injured. Once she even flew across the continent to 'be there' after I had broken a leg. As a family even though she did not partake in activities, she was there waiting, watching, or spending the day waiting until we finished. My thoughts will be of her advice, intelligence, the way she could persevere though a difficult ordeal, warmth and the love she showed me, family and others.

Eileen was always a wonderfully supportive mother in law to me and our children. When Jeri and I married she inherited four grandchildren from my first marriage and loved Adam, Spencer, Chelsea and Scott every bit as much as she did our subsequent children, Ali, Luke and Brigit. She would love to hear how everyone was doing as their lives unfolded as reveled in each and every success of her grandchildren, always available for honest advice when things were tough and a heartfelt fantastic when things went well. She was a great example of the value of hard work and industry, always anxious to help out at any family gathering even when she was getting on in years. From knitting lessons to bridge strategy to favorite recipes, she was always willing to share what she had learned in life with her family. Having known hardship and want, she helped us all to appreciate the blessings we had and we count her one of our most precious! We will miss her but look forward with faith to seeing her again in God's due time.
