Obituary of Jean E. Sweet
Jean Sweet, 84 died quietly at home in hospice care on November 28. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, and by their three children, Loralyn, David (Alexandra) and Douglas (Geri) as well as three grandchildren, Erin, Ryley and Amy. Jean was born in Owosso, MI on March 8, 1931, the only child of Harold and Mabel Carson. She graduated from the University of Michigan School of Education where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Following her marriage to her high school sweetheart, then a medical student at the U of M, she taught third grade in Ypsilanti until the birth of their first child in 1958. After Lawrence completed his training at the U of M in 1964, they moved to Birmingham, MI where they resided in the same home for 51 years. In addition to raising three children, Jean remained active in the education community by teaching English as a second language to immigrants from other countries. Jean was a member of the Village Players, Northminster Presbyterian Church, P.E.O., and the Village Club. A memorial service will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3633 West Big Beaver Road, Troy, MI, 48084 on December 22 at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Northminster or the giver's charity of choice.
