Obituary of Janis Pickell

Pickell Janis "Jan" (nee Underwood), age 85, formerly of Beverly Hills and Novi (Fox Run), passed away on August 24 while in hospice care. Predeceased by her husband Marshall Pickell. She is survived by her children Nancy Kelly, Tim Pickell, Paul (Mary) Pickell, Mark (Laurie) Pickell, and Kate (Todd) Hoerauf. Grandmother of Dan (Lisa) and Mike Hendricks; Paul (Trista), Laura (Robert) Petro and Cristen Pickell; Abby and Zach Pickell; sister Kathy (Rich) Pearce; and many wonderful friends and family. Jan is predeceased by her sister Doris (Jack) Pickell. Jan was fiercely independent and a free spirit who loved to travel; was enamored of the theater; was a voracious reader, loved to visit the local attractions in Michigan; used her talents to teach many types of crafts; was an excellent seamstress; was an early supporter of womens rights and the fair & equitable treatment of all; and worked in many interesting jobs. She was the kind of Mom who dared us to try anything. Jan was a lifelong Curling advocate, a founding member of the Child Research Center League (now known as the Childrens Leukemia Foundation), and was treasurer of almost every organization she ever belonged to. Her infectious laughter filled rooms! A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday Aug. 30 All events will be at the Novi Civic Center, 45175 W. 10 Mile Rd., Novi, MI 48375 (on 10 Mile Rd. between Novi Rd. and Taft Rd.)
