Obituary of Robert Murray MacDonald

R. Murray MacDonald, 82, of Grosse Pointe Woods, died Saturday August 26, 2017. He was born in Detroit to Gladys and Murray MacDonald. He attended Grosse Pointe High School and the University of Michigan where he was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. He served in the Air Force in Kansas City during the Berlin Crisis. He was a true entrepreneur starting and running many businesses. He enjoyed boating and socializing with his friends. He was a Michigan Football fan and an avid Red Wings fan. He was a member of the St. Andrews Society and ran the Scottish Games for many years. He was an active member of Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church. He is a past member of Bayview Golf Club in Petoskey, Birchwood Farms Country Club in Harbor Springs, Mariner Sands Golf and Country Club in Stuart, Florida and the Detroit Athletic Club and Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit. He enjoyed a long and happy marriage to Catherine MacDonald for over 50 years until her death in 2014. He is survived by his son Murray MacDonald (Bori), daughter Sarah Heinemann (Bill); Grandchildren Blake MacDonald(Rachel), Amanda Hess (Andrew), Austin, Erich, John Paul and Tommy Heinemann; Great­ grandchildren Connor and Aubrey Hess and Dylan MacDonald. He is also survived by his brother Ken MacDonald (Nina), several nieces and nephews, and his beloved pet Schnauzer Heide. His vast circle of devoted friends unanimously vote him in as the ultimate fun seeker . Their memories of happy times spent in his company could fill several volumes. A memorial service is being planned for the Fall.
