There are few people I have such fond memories of, starting early on in my childhood, as Aunt LaVerne. We'd play cards and watch the Tigers and if she rolled a 7 she'd say her classic Boo His! When I think about it, having her and her friend Dorothy was equivalent to having another set of grandparents. How lucky are we! It's no secret my favorite part of Thanksgiving was driving Aunt LaVerne to my parents house for dinner. Although some parts of the conversations involved catching up on the family, my favorite parts were things she said without fail every year that always made me smile that my parents did an amazing job raising their children, that she was so proud of me (even though she thought I would have been a great priest), and some story about Uncle Ron misbehaving as a child. When she passed on I expected to cry, but I can't think about her for more than a few seconds without smiling. I think that's the only way you can describe how Aunt LaVerne made us feel to someone who didn't have the pleasure of knowing her. I think this family needed another angel in heaven looking out for them and now we have her.

There are few people in the entire world that I think are going to Heaven immediately. You were one of those people. You realized that it is the little things that make the biggest impact on people, like framing a terrible picture that your nephew drew and colored. Thank you for everything.

Aunt Laverne was an eternal optimist. She saw the best in people, even when they couldn’t see it in themselves. Despite whatever trials she or those closest to her may have faced, Aunt LaVerne’s selflessness as a caregiver, loyalty to her friends and family, and her faith in the goodness of others remained constant. She has been a rock for many and has earned her spot in heaven time and time again. I’ll miss your laugh and your love. Rest and be at peace. Love you.

There are so many things that I will miss about you. I’ll miss your wonderful laugh and great stories, but I think most of all I will miss the love you showed our family. Your positive outlook and personality were so contagious. I am so thankful for all that you have taught me about how to be an amazing woman, family member, and friend. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories, when I think of them I always smile. Love you!

Your passing was a complete shock to everyone. But the truth is that you were ready. We may have not been but what matters is that YOU are happy. You were part of my life for 31 years and I have so many beautiful memories with you. You were such a sweet lady, a very devoted catholic and you loved us just as much as we loved you. You had the type of personality to where the whole city of Detroit could come falling down on your head and you wouldn’t budge. You were so strong and unconditionally loving. I’ll miss you so much (Great) Aunt Laverne. I will love you forever.

I will never forget how strong you were or how much you believed in me! Such a cheerful and warm-hearted woman and the BEST listener. You had a knack for making everyone feel like their time with you was special. You took great joy in the victories of those you loved and also shared in their woes. You inspired all of those around you! You will be missed. Rest In Peace, sweet great aunt. We love you forever.

I figured out early that Aunt LaVerne was one of a kind. She was, easily, the most memorable person I have ever known. If you didn't know her, you missed it. She was just that special.

Although we were not blood relatives, she's my Aunt through marriage, she always made me feel as if I were blood. She has brought nothing but joy to me and my family for the 31 years I've been blessed enough to call her Aunt LaVerne. I will treasure every memory of her for as long as I live. Whenever I think of her it warms my heart. I love you Aunt LaVerne.
