Obituary of Thomas Gibbs
Thomas Gibbs III, 62, died in the early hours of Friday, January 19, 2018 after a long battle with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrigs disease. He passed peacefully at home in Wyandotte, MI surrounded by his family and pets.
Thomas was born April 30, 1955 to Thomas and Elspeth Gibbs in Trenton, MI. He attended Wyandotte Public Schools and graduated high school in 1973. He began work at Pennwalt where he met his wife Jeanne Varga. They were married April 23, 1976. After working at Pennwalt for 11 years he began work at Fermi (DTE) where he worked for over 30 years. He enjoyed cycling, sailing, and woodworking, among other hobbies. He was best known in the community as a hockey instructor and later a sailing instructor.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne, children Christina (Justin Thon) and Andrew and many family and friends as well as his much adored pets.
He is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Elspeth and sister Margaret.
A memorial to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Edison Boat Club, 100 Lycaste St., Detroit, MI 48214.
