Obituary of Linda Sue Sanders

Linda Sue (Foster) Sanders, passed in peace on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at the age of 65, in her home surrounded by her closest family. Born in Ypsilanti in 1953, Linda graduated from Ypsilanti High School (YHS) in 1971 and earned a teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1977. She married her husband, William H. Sanders Jr., on April 28, 1973 and together they had one daughter, Kathrin (Katie), in 1983. Linda participated in the Ypsilanti Womens Golf League at Green Oaks for more than 30 years and the Pine View Womens Tuesday Morning Golf League; forming lifetime friendships with many of her teammates. An avid fan of Broadway, she was most partial to the musical Wicked, the performances of Idina Menzel, and the iconic Barbara Streisand. She traveled the country to see live shows of her favorites; seeing Wicked over 45 times. She was also a softball season ticket holder at the University of Michigan and enjoyed a brief tenure as the YHS junior varsity softball coach. Linda was a rock-steady and reliable volunteerwhether it was hauling trailers of equipment, making costumes, performing first aid, or supplying food, she did it all with great expertise. Linda volunteered with several organizations over the years including the Ypsilanti Area Dancers, YHS Band Association, YHS Athletic Boosters, and Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps. Considered a mother to many, she was a wonderful woman that was deeply loved, is greatly missed, and will always be cherished by those who knew her. While her daughter attended high school and college Linda could always be found at a softball game, marching band show, ballet recital, winter guard show, or drum corps competition knowing each team member by name. Her door was always open for any of her "kids" that wanted to stop by for a candid chat or just a hug. Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Lenora T. (Wright) Zopf, father, Harold Foster, brother, Donald E. Foster, and sister-in-law, Margie (Townsend) Foster. She is survived by her husband, William; daughter, Kathrin J.W. Sanders (David A. Menzies) of Monroe; brothers Carl F. (Linda) Foster of Brighton, Melvin H. Foster of Ypsilanti, and David B. (June Brock) Foster of Houston, TX; sister Elizabeth A. Hardesty; her three step-grandchildren; and dozens of nieces and nephews. A celebration of Lindas life will take place on February 25th from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at UAW Local 898 (8975 Textile Rd., Ypsilanti, MI 48197). You are encouraged to wear green, her favorite color. In lieu of flowers, Linda requested that donations be made in her honor to A Broader Way (abroaderway.org) or the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance (ocrfa.org).
