Obituary of JoAnne O'Bey

JoAnne OBey, age 80, of Detroit, MI passed away March 1, 2018, peacefully in her home at Southfield Senior Living at Sterling Place. While residing at Sterling Place for four years, JoAnne enjoyed bingo, Wii Bowling, exercising and she loved to eat. JoAnne was the youngest child born to the late Chares T. and Pearl Watson in Jonesboro, Arkansas on January 24, 1938. JoAnne was affectionately known as Jo. She moved to Detroit, MI in the 1940s. JoAnne was educated in the Detroit Public School System. She attended Wingert Elementary and she graduated from Northwestern High School in January of 1957. JoAnne accepted Christ at an early age and converted to Catholicism prior to being married to Joseph L. OBey on July 13, 1957. To this union, four beautiful children were born Angela Christine, Joseph Lawrence, Charles Victor and Donna Marie who proceeded her in death along with her only brother, Charles T. Watson, Jr. She started as a currency sorter with the Federal Reserve Bank in 1958 and retired in 2003 as an Assistant Operations Manager. Before she retired, JoAnne enjoyed bowling, shopping, and she was an avid Detroit Sports Fan. She loved watching the Tigers, Lions, and Pistons games with her beloved George Ford, Jr., who preceeded her in death in July of 2017. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Angela OBey-Young, Joseph OBey (Chiquita), Charles OBey (Jennifer); Grand-children, Thomas, Christopher, Brittany Brady (Leonard), LeTisha, Twamika, Jordan, Joseph III, Tiffany, Stephon, Charles Jr., Cheridon (Tanganikia) and Justin; Great-grands, Ava (who called her Gee-Gee), Marley, Harmony, Albert Jr., Sydney, Jaxson, Parker, Bershon, Josiah, Jaden, Ella and Levi; Best friend for over 60 years and god-mother to her children, Charlyne Richardson; Special Friend, Deborah Parker; a niece Yvonne Reed and a cousin Nancy Pope-Angulo from California. A Memorial and Sharing Service will take place on Saturday, March 31, 2018, starting at 11:30 AM at the RG & GR Harris Funeral Home, 15251 Harper Ave., Detroit, Michigan 48224.
