Obituary of Carol T. Young
Carol T. Young passed away peacefully at her home in Dexter, Michigan on April 26, 2018 at the age of 84.
Carol was born on March 9, 1934 to Frank and Regina Telepak in Cleveland, Ohio. Carol was the first of the four Telepak girls (Marilyn King [deceased], Kathleen Buss, and Lois Clauer). Carol attended Shaker Heights High School and Ohio State University, where she earned degrees in education and English. She also played womens field hockey and was a faithful Buckeye fan. She married Frank B. Young (deceased), and they had three children together: Lisa, Andrew (Andy) and Robert (Bob). Carol spent most of her adult life in Western Springs, Illinois where she fell in love with the Chicagoland area, especially its history and the surrounding prairie.
After her children were grown, Carol returned to education, teaching English as a Second Language and kindergarten in the western suburbs of Chicago. In 1989, she was selected as an outstanding science teacher to participate in a three-year NSF funded honors science program at Illinois State University, during which she wrote Naturally Native Americans. Carol also developed programs and curricula for Morton Arboretum, the Field Museum, and the Chicago Childrens Museum. When she retired, she put her creative energies into the Western Springs Historical Society.
Carols many friends and family (Lisa Youngs family: John Speth (spouse) with children Larrea Young and Robin Speth; Andy Youngs family: Cindy (spouse) with children Katie and Ella; Bob Young and his daughter Hillary) will always remember her love of sewing, baking, history, and nature, especially her love of native prairie plants, Bur Oak trees, and monarch butterflies.
A service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Dexter, Michigan on May 24 at 4:30 pm.
