Jerry was a kind and generous man... I worked for him at his urgent care on Telegraph road12 mile in Sfld from 83 to 85 when I first came out of medical school..I was trying to build another practice up at the time as well....He was very gracious allowing me to give out business cards to patients who needed follow up care seen at the UC who did not have a Primary care doctor..I was very appreciative of this and helped me get my practice off the ground in RO where I have been for the past forty years..I still see many patients today in RO that I saw initially at the UC in Sfld...

The two most important days in life are the day we are born and the day we learn why (M. Twain). There’s no such thing as a life without connections and some people have an effect on everyone who encounters them, even if it’s not noticed at the time. However, we have the choice of being an active participant. It's a skill that improves with a lifetime of practice and Dr Lopez was good at it. As my first and most important healthcare mentor we made a connection that I believe challenged and changed us both. When I heard about his passing I was reminded of J.K.Rowling’s quote Say not in grief he is no more-but live in thankfulness that he was. It matters not what someone is born, but that they grow to be. The Bible says The soul of the just is in the hand of the Lord. He’s surely there, he’s still husband, dad, grandad, great grandad, uncle, friend. Today I simply thank God for his influence in my life and pray him Godspeed.
