Obituary of Wayne F. Sherman

Wayne Sherman of Westland, Mich. died in his sleep Tuesday, Jan. 8th, at the Glen Abby Memory Care facility in Canton, Mich. He was 84. Mr. Sherman grew up in the Chicago area, but had lived in Michigan since the 1960s. He was a former airline industry executive, having worked at North Central, Republic and Northwest Airlines. The former high school dropout worked his way up from baggage handler in Chicago to become a station manager at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Along the way, he earned his GED and an associate degree from Wayne County Community College. He was preceded in death by his wife Ione. He is survived by three children, Terri Sherman Allen (Kevin), Caryn Wilson (Steve) and Scott Sherman, plus four grandchildren, Erin Demek, Kelsey Allen, Shane Allen and Sarah Wilson, and four great-grandchildren, Nora Allen, Harper Allen, Florence Allen and Archer Demek. A celebration of Waynes life will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. at Haabs Restaurant in Ypsilanti, Mich. Anyone looking to honor Waynes memory, can make a donation to the Schoolcraft College Music Department. There was nothing Wayne enjoyed more than attending concerts at the school.
