Obituary of Jeffrey Leighton Allen
Jeffrey (Jeff) Leighton Allen was born on October 4, 1956 in Frankfurt, Germany to Amelie and Harvey Allen. Jeff attended St. Lukes Primary School where he excelled in all subjects. Jeff studied performing arts in high school and served as editor on the yearbook committee. After graduating from David Mackenzie High School in 1974, Jeff continued his studies at Highland Park and Wayne County Community Colleges.
Prior to retiring in December 2018, Jeff was employed by the U.S. Federal Government for 39 years. His most recent position was Customs Technician for the Department of Homeland Security. Jeff received several awards and commendations for his service.
Jeff was a member of St. Lukes Church for 50 years and served as its Lector. Jeff enjoyed performing arts; specifically, theater and modern dance. He often shared his appreciation of this art form with his siblings. Jeff was an avid reader with an extensive collection of classic literature, biographies and essays.
Preceded in death by his parents Amelie and Harvey, and sister Cecily, Jeff leaves behind to cherish his memory, siblings Jocelyn, Joanne, Carla (King), and Stephen, niece Jessica, nephew Jared, and his beloved dog, Rajah. A private memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at RG & GR Harris Funeral Home, Garden City, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Detroit Institute of Art Museum, an organization of which Jeff was a member for over 30 years.
