Obituary of Lamar Magers

Mike Magers, 89, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 8th, 2019. He was surrounded by loved ones at his residence in Michigan. Mike was born Lamar Magers, on December 6th, 1929. The son of the late Lester and Ethel Magers of Tiffin, Ohio. In Mike's memoirs, his brother, Berdell, did not like the name Lamar and would joke that he and Pat, his next oldest sister of 6 years, were the comedy team "Pat & Mike" that aired in the 20's and 30's. Some of the family picked up calling them that and Mike stuck with him the rest of his life. Mike and Josephine Sager were married April 25th, 1981 in Royal Oak, Michigan. He is survived by his loving wife, Jo (Josephine) Magers of Michigan, who brought four children into their marriage, Steve (Cheryl) Sager of California, Amy (John) Little, Nola (Robert) DiVico, and Robin (Kerry) Carrizal all of Michigan, his children from a former marriage, Jan Spooner, Sally Magers, and Martin (Dawn) Magers all of Colorado, three California grandchildren, Jennifer Sager, Chris Sager, and Sarah (Nathan) Bevel, five Colorado grandchildren, Patrick Ekdahl, Andrew (Myckala) Ballast, Jason Tompkins, Taylor Groves, and Tristan Magers, and two Colorado great grandchildren, Lily and Arya. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Berdell (BJ), and four sisters, LaVonne (Bonnie), Opal (Ops), Treva (Jeannette), and Patricia (Pat). In Mike's life, he was many things; Son, Coast Guard Radio Operator, Cash Register & Computer Repair Tech, Indian Guide Leader, Carpenter, Husband, Father, Explorer, & Nature Lover. He will be remembered by his constant, sometimes goofy, smile, his jokester attitude, and his casual dress; yes, the white tennis shoes and bucket hat that went with him everywhere. A small service will be held on Saturday, October 26th near the St. Clair River in Michigan where Mike and Jo had vacationed many times to watch the freighters go by. Then, in June 2020 there will be a service in Tiffin, Ohio followed by a Family Reunion, also in Tiffin. Details of this gathering will be coming soon.
