Obituary of Wilfred Glenn Upleger

Wilfred (Bill) Glenn Upleger, age 91, passed away peacefully on October 22 at Ingham County Medical Care Facility on Dobie Road. He was born in Detroit on January 19, 1928, the only child of Fredrick and Johanna. He graduated from Southeastern High School and went on to have a career in the electrical industry. He remained in the industry for over 40 years, becoming a National Sales Manager and reached his goal of traveling to all 50 states during his tenure. He retired on his 70th birthday. Bill never said "no" being a born salesman, volunteer and everyones friend. He never missed a party and planned many himself. He served as Parrish Council President at St. Marys, Knights of Columbus Grand Knight in both Milford and Williamston, Village Council President in Milford. He was also a member of the Milford Historical Society where he organized the 4th of July parade for 12 years, an ardent worker on Mill River Days and especially enjoyed working on the Harvest Ball every Fall. He was chosen as an Honorary Member of the Milford Chamber of Commerce. During his years in Williamston he served on the Williamston Schools Foundation and Lions Club, as an usher at St. Marys for 8 years and was an active member of the Senior Center. He is survived by his wife Barbara of 43 years, his children Karen Firosz, Gayle Brown, Jill Rumph (Jerry), Robert Upleger, Susan Johnson, Bill Upleger, Jr. (Susan), stepchildren Kim Kaye (Thomas), Tim Tunney (Teresa), Tom Tunney (Kristi), Jim Tunney, and Karin Ware (Paul), 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Marys Catholic Church, Williamston on Saturday, November 9th. Visitation will be from 10am - 12pm, funeral at 12:00pm with luncheon immediately following. The family would like to express their thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Grace Hospice and the loving, caring staff of the Ingham County Medical Facility on Dobie Road.
