Obituary of Kathleen Victoria Childress

Kathleen Childress, 60, passed away November 8th unexpectedly at her home in Shelby Twp, MI. Kathy will be cremated and a private family memorial will be held at a future date. Kathy will be laid to rest in the summer beside her mother and father in Winslow, Indiana. Kathleen Childress, was born on July 5,1959 in the Detroit area to Adron and Sharon Childress. She grew up in Warren with her 4 siblings Keith, Karen, Sheila and Janet. Kathy graduated from Fitzgerald High School. Kathy had a passion for singing. In high school she performed in many concerts, including one of her favorites, Oklahoma. She married David Strength in 1977. In addition to being a mother she wore many hats. She owned a photography studio, had a successful cleaning business and also did some modeling. There is way too much to describe in a few words all that she accomplished. Kathy and Dave laid their roots in a beautiful home in the small town of Almont with their 4 children Jeannine, Jeremy, Sean and Rebecca. Kathy loved the holidays and decorated her home over the top for Halloween and Christmas. She always made it a memorable and special occasion for her children. Kathy worked in law enforcement for many years for Romeo and Chesterfield Police departments. She moved up the ranks starting as a dispatcher, records department manager and Executive Administrative Assistant to Chesterfield Twp. Chief of Police. She enjoyed her job and was great at it. She raised money and organized many events such as charity balls for the police departments to make sure they had the funding they needed to succeed. She had a bigger than life personality and loving heart. In her spare time she enjoyed watching TV, politics, trivia games, and renting movies. In 2012, Kathy married John Johnson and moved to Shelby Twp. She worked at The Shelby Twp Senior Center alongside her mother for a few years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and visits with her children. She also enjoyed spending time with her long time friend Carl and her pets. Kathy is survived by her husband, John, Children, Jeannine ( Jim) Morris, Jeremy (Geralyn) Strength, Sean (Arika) Strength, Rebecca ( David) Pearl. Grandchildren, Adrianna, Dylan, Ayden, Kayden, Chase, Landon, Korbin. Siblings, Keith ( Regina) Childress and Karen Childress. Best Friend Carl. She is preceded in death by her parents, Adron and Sharon Childress, Grandparents Web and Victoria Singleton. Sisters, Janet and Sheila.
