Obituary of Gordon M Sauls
Sauls, Gordon M.
Born May 19, 1928 to Frank and Rose Sauls of Detroit, MI; passed away December 4, 2019 (91 years old). Gordon is survived by his wife Virginia Sauls, sons Brian Sauls (Charlene) of Harrisburg, PA, and Eric Sauls (Erin) of Highland, MI, grandsons Ian and Keith Sauls, and granddaughters Michelle and Kathryn Sauls. Gordon was preceded in death by his oldest son, David, in 2018, and his parents and brother Lawrence. He enlisted in the US Navy shortly after V-J Day & served 8 months before getting a medical discharge, and thereafter attended Wayne State University where he earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in English Literature, along with a teaching certificate. Gordon taught English at Livonia Franklin High School from 1962 until his retirement in 1989, and was known as a strict but fair teacher.
Gordon and Virginia were married in 1951. He loved playing & following golf and was an avid Tigers and Lions fan. His father took him to see Babe Ruth play back in the mid-1930s at Navin Field (later to become Tiger Stadium). He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather - always fair & honest. He also loved tinkering in his basement workshop and creating jewelry. Gordon liked repairing anything that required fixing, even rebuilding a few carburetors when they needed it. An avid reader, he always saved his large collection of books & kept them in his library. Gordon will be missed by his family and all who knew him, including countless students who learned from him over the years at Franklin. He can rest now knowing that he spent his years living a full and productive life.
