The name "Barnabas" comes to my mind immediately as I reflect on our ministry life in SEND International together with your dad. Barnabas means "Son of encouragement". We met outside Highland Park Baptist Church, the summer of 1977 just before we joined the team in the Philippines. When we arrived, we thought Frank got a new wife, Jackie's hair was black that summer but, in the fall of 1977, she was snow white. We learned that her hair color didn't arrive in time, so she made the change instantly.
Then when we were being assigned to language school, we asked if we could live in the province where we would be immersed in the language and culture instead of a three-month crash course in Manila. He said, "Of course you can. No one asks for more language study!"
After my survey trip to Spain, Frank saw my promotional slide show for that new field and he said to me, "Dave, we need something like that for the opening of Hong Kong." So, another survey trip was arranged later that year. His engagement with us in Hong Kong led to his recommending that we help out the young new start up team in Hong Kong. That year opened us up to Mainland China and now you know the rest of the story. We are eternally grateful to Frank for his encouraging us into new territory, and the blessings of seeing fruit from all those years of labor together. This photo was taken at one of our summer conferences.
