Obituary of Constance Lucille Upton

Constance Lucille Upton died on February 13, 2022, at the age of 97. She was born in Kansas, the youngest of four sisters.

Connie earned a B.A. in Business from the University of Illinois and then worked for Hudson’s in Detroit as a buyer for children’s clothing. She met her husband, Ernest Upton, through church. Connie and Ernie were married for 55 years until his death in 2008. Together they made life-long friends through church, golf, ballroom dancing, and bridge all while providing a loving and happy home for their three children. They were founding members of Northbrook Presbyterian Church and Stonycroft Hills Club.

With many interests and a great sense of fun, Connie maintained long friendships and made new friends easily throughout her life. She was an avid sports fan, a patron of the theater and the Detroit Institute of Art and a long time member and former officer of The Village Club. An avid bridge player, Connie usually earned her quarter back (if not more), tried her best to break 50 in 9 holes of golf at Stonycroft Hills Club, was an excellent cook and was excellent at working crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and playing arm-chair Jeopardy! Connie created treasured quilts, needlepoint pieces and other works of art for family and friends. She loved sharing stories about the visits and adventures had with her sisters, nieces, nephews, children and grandchildren.

Connie was preceded in death by her devoted husband Ernie, sisters Katherine and Doris, and many dear friends.  Her life is honored by her children Susan (Fred), Carol (Peter) and Allen, her grandchildren, Josh and Carly Youngman and Zachary Nicholls, her sister, Majorie Parry, and many beloved friends and relatives. Her loss is deeply felt by those she touched.

A celebration of Connie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 20th at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3633 W. Big Beaver Road, Troy, Michigan 48084.

In lieu of flowers, donations made for cancer research, Alzheimer’s research, to Northminster Presbyterian Church (www.troynorthminster.org) or to the charity of your choice will be greatly appreciated.
