I have a world of respect for Coach Neil....even if I never played on one of his teams. A couple of memories stand out. 1. As a player on the opposing team, I showed up earlier than my teammates for a game. He insisted that i get out on the field and practice with his team. He continued to give me tips to improve my skills during that pre-game time. 2. During another game, again on the opposing team, he noticed that I was running very slowly with a limp. After he confirmed that I was okey to play, he offered to allow a pinch runner after every at-bat. He didn't think it was fair that I would be an easy out - without the pinch runner. While he had many great teams, was very competitive and won many games, his main concern was to teach players how to improve their skills and to play a fair game.....no matter what team you were on.

Often stopping by my parents house on Devonshire for coffee. Hearing him and my dad talking coaching strategies is a great memory. They coached quite a few years together for Cannon Baseball. We would laugh at how tan the two of them would be at the end of the season. George Hamilton had nothing on them. Fond childhood memories. May he Rest In Peace. He will be fondly remembered.

What a figure Mr. Neil was in my neighborhood. He will always be Mr. Baseball! The Peralta and Neil families spent many days together at the diamonds scattered around the eastside of Detroit and I know our fathers admired each other greatly as partners in coaching and as adversaries on the ballfield. My heart aches for your entire family at this tremendous loss, but I can only believe that Bill and Frank will relish being together again in heaven talking baseball, recalling Canon Little League memories (Indians!) and watching the Tigers. Cheers to one of the great men from my childhood! We were all lucky to have known him.

To Frank Wallace:
I truly enjoyed our conversations throughout the 80s 90s and 2000s
