Obituary of James Matthew Bergstrom
JAMES M. BERGSTROM
This is really hard. Sadly, our son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin JIM BERGSTROM, 55, unexpectedly passed away from natural causes in Chicago on August 13, 2022. Survived by his loving parents Richard and Mary Jill (Power) Bergstrom, brothers Andrew Bergstrom and Matthew (Amber) Bergstrom, and nephews Jackson Bergstrom and Andrei Bergstrom, and nieces Camilla Bergstrom and Elina Bergstrom and numerous cousins.
Among his many talents, he was known best to family, friends and the community as an outstanding professional magician and caring friend. The awesome tributes keep coming in, and our family is so touched by those recalling nostalgically, the young magician with the small doctor’s bag, who appeared before them; from which he provided entertainment to bedazzle young and old, alike. He delighted audiences for over 40 years, and was a fixture at popular Detroit area restaurants, private parties, corporate events, charitable functions, and occasional television appearances. Many recall his vanishing birdcage routine, which he performed at only three feet from his audience. Others recall his North American International Auto Show appearance, whereat he made three new Chevrolet models appear out of nowhere. It was an especially proud moment, when he was invited to perform at the prestigious Magic Castle in Los Angeles, California. He was also honored to perform privately for President George W. Bush; and upon other occasions, other prominent public figures.
Living with Jim, meant a life filled with man-eating plants, laser-cut folding coins and unending balloons and playing cards. He was amazing! We love you, Jim! Your quick wit, unending humor and strong presence will be forever missed. A Memorial for James M. Bergstrom, will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1800 West Maple Road, Birmingham, Michigan. Visitation at 10:00 am, Service begins at 11:00 am. A Wand-Breaking Ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 10th from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at the Magic Lounge, 5050 North Clark, Chicago, Illinois (all are welcome). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to the American Heart Association and/or the American Diabetes Association.
