"I cut my own grass...but how about coming in for a drink?" That's the answer I got just 18 months ago when I asked Jim at 95ish if I could cut his grass for him. He wanted to do it...I think he needed to do it, so I only cheated and cut half way across the property line. That's the man I will remember. Self-sufficient and determined. Proud and while not as physically strong as when we first met...strong always in spirit.
We were truly honored to call him our neighbor, and loved the life he demonstrated well into his 90's. Sue and I both only regret not living next door sooner. Hearing swing music through the windows in the summer, to sitting below the deck looking at the lake with drinks in hand, we will always cherish those memories.
