Obituary of Raymond A. Whitton
RAYMOND ANTHONY WHITTON
November 10, 1931 – January 12, 2023
Husband, Father, Grandfather. Raymond lived his life to the fullest, always with a “Hi, how are you” and constantly on the go. He loved hunting, bowling, sailing, golfing, skiing and fishing and did many of these into his 80’s with family, friends and neighbors. This last year was tough because he could no longer do these things or remember those he loved. On January 12, 2023, Raymond left this earth at the age of 91.
Raymond was born on November 10, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan, son of Raymond and Monica (McKeone) Whitton. He was the fourth of six children, three brothers and two sisters. Ray served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He met and married Joann Smar, his first wife. Together they had four children, Raymond, Cheryl, Stephen and Diane. For the majority of his adult life he was employed by the Ford Motor Company.
Later in life he met Carol Nelson and they shared many of the same interest; sailing, golfing and skiing. They married and together they now had seven children as Carol had three children of her own, Julie, Jeffrey and James.
Raymond is survived by his wife of thirty-six years Carol (nee: Sadowski), his children Raymond, Cheryl, Diane (Christopher), Julie (John), Jeffrey (Pam) and James (Paige), 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Donald (Connie) Whitton.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Monica Whitton, his brothers Giles (Patricia) Whitton and Joseph Whitton, his sisters Marilyn (Robert) Lariviere, Suzanne (Ralph) Fanelli. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Joann Whitton and son Stephen Whitton.
Per Raymond’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. He will be interred at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
