Obituary of Grace Marie Dostie Cameron

I Grace Marie Dostie Cameron, 91, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on June 13, 2023. She was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin and friend to many.

Grace was born in Detroit to Vernon and Isabelle Dostie on March 24,1932. She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Staszak, beloved grandsons Adam (Sharon) Bienkowski, Dennis (Tami) Bienkowski and great grandson Ethan. Also surviving are her brother George Dostie and sister Mary (Dennis) Norton, as well as her sisters-in-law Ruth L. and Ruth M. Dostie and many precious nieces, nephews and cousins.

Grace was predeceased by both parents, brothers Cameron, David and Thomas and her sister Marguerite Fitts.

After graduation from Ferndale High School and Detroit Business College, she worked at Ford Motor Company and finished with a lengthy career at CarBee, Inc. as office manager for boiler engineers.

Grace loved gardening which led her to receive her Master Gardener certification through Michigan State I University. She was an avid nature enthusiast and backpacked many trails in the U. S. and Canada. Her love of animals led her to become a docent at the Belle Isle Children’s Zoo and the Detroit Zoo. She was an active member of the Troy Fellowship Methodist Church and later the Congregational Church of Royal Oak. She was part of several bridge groups and always the consummate hostess. Loving to travel, she visited all 50 U.S. states and several foreign countries.

A Celebration of Grace’s life is planned for July 9 at the First Congregational Church of Royal Oak. There will be a brief visitation with family beginning at 1:00 followed by a service and light lunch. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Detroit Zoological Society: detroitzoo.org/support/give
