Obituary of Geraldine Elizabeth Dice
Geraldine Elizabeth “Gerry” Dice celebrated her 100th birthday in October 2022 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. All her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were there to celebrate with her. On June 28, 2023, she passed from this life to the next.
Gerry was born and raised in Hudsonville, Michigan. She was the oldest of five sisters who remained close throughout their lives. She graduated from Calvin College in 1942 and taught English at Union High School in Grand Rapids.
Gerry married Robert Dice in 1946. Soon after he graduated from law school, they moved to Grosse Pointe and raised their family.
Gerry had many interests. She loved gardening, knitting, playing bridge and reading. She loved music and enjoyed singing with many different choirs. She loved traveling and had many fond memories of her experiences as a world traveler. She was a lifelong fan of the Michigan Wolverines football team and the Detroit Tigers. She wintered in Longboat Key, Florida for over 30 years and had many great friends there. She was a founding member of Christ Church Longboat Key.
She was a member of Junior Group Goodwill, Grosse Pointe Lawyers Wives and Questers. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church of Detroit for many years. Her faith was very important to her and it was a great comfort to her that her love of God was shared by all of her family. She prayed for each member of her family by name every day.
Gerry was predeceased by her dear husband Robert in 1983 and her sister Marilyn Veenstra Marcus in 2022. She is survived by her children Mary Ellen “Mimi” VanderMale McMillan (Sandy), Linda Hendrikse (Michael) and Robert Dice, Jr. (Mary), grandchildren Keri VanDrunen (Nate), Laura Grosso (Tony), John Hendrikse (Margaret), Elizabeth Ledeboer (Marcus), Jacqueline VanderMale, Robert E. Dice, III (Rylee), Joel VanderMale (Kathleen), Clare Brady (Chris) and Madeline Dice and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Dorothy Aalbers, Maxine Groen (Paul) and Carol Kanode (Dick).
A memorial service will be held on July 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Mayflower Congregational Church in East Grand Rapids.
