Gail Angela Page-Grange

Gail Angela Page-Grange was born in Detroit, Michigan, on Wednesday, August 8, 1951. She was the daughter and only child of Edward and Mable Page. Her father was an employee of the City of Detroit, and her mother was a Teacher. She attended Courville Elementary School, Murphy Junior High, and Cass Technical High School. She attended Oakland University, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.

Early in her career, Gail worked in banking, rising into management at a time when very few Black women were afforded such an opportunity. From there, she went on to a job in which she was instrumental in the building of the Detroit People Mover. She spoke of this experience fondly as “the Project.”

Later, Gail became a teacher in Detroit Public Schools’ Adult Education program. She was known for compassion in helping people less fortunate than she was. When that program ended, she became a substitute teacher. It was in that endeavor that she met her future husband and the love of her life, Norman J. Grange. They were married on Saturday, August 3, 2002, at Plymouth United Church of Christ in Detroit. Gail ended her teaching career helping Special Needs students at Charles F. Kettering High School. Ever the helper, Gail spent the next nine years administering care to her beloved mother.

Gail departed this life very suddenly on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. She is survived by her husband, Norman.
