Obituary of Hazel Louise Baumgardner-Conroy

 

Hazel L. Baumgardner/Conroy (nee Gallmeyer) of Dearborn, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2023, at the age of 88. Born on July 6, 1935, in Evansville, Indiana, Hazel was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

On June 12th, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart from Edsel Ford was Fredrick Baumgardner, having two sons together Michael and Jeffrey. Later, as a widow she met Bob Conroy at a high school reunion, marrying then on July 8th, 1995.

Hazel was an amazing homemaker, known for her exceptional skills in the kitchen. She was the bestcook and baker, and her talents were recognized when she won the 1987 Michigan State Fair best in show and the Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn Recipe Contest in various categories from 1987 to 1991.Hazel's passion for food also led her to enter food contests regularly, both at the city and state level,especially at Pillsbury.

In addition to her culinary talents, Hazel was a skilled sewer and quilter. She had a knack for alterations and could transform any piece of clothing into a perfect fit. Her creativity extended beyond fabric, as she was also a talented storyteller and a wonderful singer at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she worshipped.

Hazel's dedication to her family was evident in her role in enriching the lives of young students as an elementary paraprofessional at Crestwood School District. She cherished the time spent with her sons, Michael and Jeffrey Baumgardner, and her daughters-in-law, Sally and Linda. Hazel took great pride in her granddaughters, Michelle (Sarah) and Susan, and her grandsons, Jeffrey and Robert (Jess). She adored her great-grandchildren, Lilli, Max, Georgia, and Thomas. Hazel also shared a special bond with her sister, Linda (Jerry) McEvoy/LeLacheur. and her goddaughter Peggy Earle and can't forget her beloved fur baby Lizzy!

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Helen Gallmeyer, her husband's Fredrick Baumgardner and Robert Conroy. Her brother, Gerry Gallmeyer and sisters; Barb Bryson and Debbie Bell. Also, her nephew and godson, Scott McEvoy.

A memorial to celebrate Hazel's life and a Luncheon. PLEASE RSVP by the 16th. It will be held on September 23rd at Noon at Park Place in Dearborn Michigan.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Quilts of Valor, Alzheimer's research, or Leader Dogs for the Blind organization; causes that were dear to Hazel's heart.

Hazel's legacy of love, warmth, and creativity will forever be cherished by her family and friends. She leaves behind a treasure trove of memories and a legacy as an outstanding homemaker and of culinary excellence that will be passed down through the generations. May her soul rest in eternal peace
