I thought it would be nice to share something about Phyllis that the family may not know or remember. I met the Marion family thirty three years ago (and married Gary three years later). I met Phyllis early on during a family birthday celebration, and saw her throughout the years during holidays, birthdays, and the like.
Phyllis was the kindest person I had ever met. She always acted like she was truly interested in what I had to say, even though I knew she was probably bored to death! She also always asked about my parents, and my daughter when Katie couldn’t be at a family party.
I can’t remember if it was a year before, or a year after, Gary and I were married when Phyllis gave me a beautiful (and unexpected), Christmas gift. She found out from someone that I collected perfume bottles and gave me two small ones for Christmas. I have them still and keep them in a glass cabinet with the other ones I have collected.
The fact that she remembered me at Christmas when I was so new to the family is a tribute to the kind of person she was...always welcoming and accepting. I will miss that about her, along with her wonderful Bostonian way of talking (I think it’s like a British accent...people always sound smarter when they speak with a British or Boston accent).
