Obituary of Dawn Candace Hyatt

Dawn Candace Hyatt, age 74, passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2024. She was born on January 13th, 1950 in Detroit to Wayne and Ann-Ette Hyatt. She was the beloved eldest sister of Sue (Tim) Tatroe, Marcia Hyatt and Wayne A. (Jan) Hyatt. Adoring aunt to Kayla (Tom) Tatroe, Ashleigh (Keith) Tatroe, and Taylor Tatroe. Treasured great aunt to Spencer, Emily, and Kathy. Dawn was preceded in death by her loving parents Wayne and Ann-Ette Hyatt, her younger brother Wayne A. Hyatt, and her brother-in-law Timothy Tatroe.

Aunt Dawn graduated from Denby High School in 1969. She spent many years as a bookkeeper for Arpco (Autowares) until her retirement. Her many hobbies included knitting, cooking, crafting, and practicing calligraphy. She was a Lyceum Superintendent for the Michigan State Spiritualist Association where she touched the lives of all the children she worked with. She had a deep love for animals, especially her cats and namely, Myssie.

Aunt Dawn was always taking care of others. Her big and generous heart touched all those who knew her. She loved her family more than anything, and the greatest loves of her life were her nieces, great nieces and great nephew. Aunt Dawn taught them the joys of life. There was never a dull moment when she was around and she could entertain them for hours by just telling stories, crafting, and playing games. She taught them how to wear black olives on their fingertips, what types of cheeses were the tastiest, and the best way to annoy their parents in the car with the never ending game of “Pop, pop, popcorn.” She cherished any time she got to spend with them.

Life with Aunt Dawn was an adventure. She was funny, creative, stubborn, imaginative, and unimaginably kindhearted. She helped out whenever and wherever she could. She enjoyed spending time up north with her family. She was truly the sunshine in our lives and will be deeply missed by her family and those she loved in life.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in honor of Aunt Dawn to her family’s Relay for Life team to benefit the American Cancer Society via the following link: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/calmbeforethesquall
