Obituary of Gregory George Marentette

Gregory George Marentette, passed away peacefully in his sleep following a brief battle with cancer September 13th, 2015. He was surrounded by family in the comfort of his home. Greg was 53 years old and was born Apr. 27, 1962, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and was a lifelong resident of southeast Michigan. He was a 1981 graduate of Utica High School. Greg was an avid sports fan of all Detroit professional sports teams; however, anyone who knew him can attest his heart truly lied with the University of Michigan Wolverines. Despite being an often pessimistic fan of the Lions, Pistons, and Tigers, you would be hard pressed to convince Greg that the Wolverines were anything other than the best college football team in the country. Regardless what the team's record stated that season. His love of sports did not stop at the national level, he combined his love of sports and his love for his family and was always the number one fan of his nephews, niece and their friends. Always offering words of advice and encouragement. No Friday night was complete until he knew the outcome of the games his nephews played. It didn't matter whose child you were, or how you came to know his nephews. He was known as "Uncle Greg" to many throughout the years. He was a man with a giant heart who had an incredible sense of humor. He loved hearing jokes almost as much as he loved telling them, and could lift a room in laughter in an instant with his boisterous personality. Nobody could carry on a conversation quite like Greg, and had no problem making friends with people he came to know and strangers alike. He is survived by his mother, Nita (Stinson) Marentette; his sister, Denise Shock and husband, Larry; his brother, Jeffrey Marentette and wife, Sarah; Nephews; Michael, Steven, and Kyle Morrow and his wife Stephanie, Nephew; Jordan Marentette, and Niece Jessica Marentette. He was preceded in death by his father, George L. Marentette. A private family memorial will be held and celebration of his life is being planned for the future.
