Obituary of Mary Patricia Kelly

Mary Patricia Kelly of Royal Oak, MI passed away July 2, 2015 , 91 years old , at Angela Hospice Center in Livonia, MI. B orn in Denver Colorado, October 18, 1923 of Albertine (Portman) Kelly and Robert James. Kelly. She was preceded in death by her sister, Kelly (Kathleen) Miller of Santa Fe, NM and is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, Kristin (Miller) Busschau , Eric Miller, Ryan Miller of Colorado and Jana (Miller) Schot (Glenn) of Hawaii. "MPK" was the longtime friend, confidant and mentor to Mary Rashid and Thomas Sklut. "Miss Kelly" was the Honorary Grandmother of Thomas Sklut, (Kristen Gasieski) Anna Sklut and John Sklut and Great Grandmother of Nora and Sylvia Sklut. Mary Pat graduated from Marygrove College with a Bachelor's Degree in English. She became an editor for Ford Motor Company Magazine. Later, she became an Elementary School Teacher in the Hazel Park Public Schools. She earned a Master's Degree from Oakland University and retired from teaching in 1986. Mary Patricia was described as one who had a "great capacity for friendship." She made and sustained friendships, even making new friends in the last years of her life. She possessed great intellect and a sharp wit, deep wisdom and genuine love for life. Mary Pat enjoyed literature, movies, travel(especially Santa Fe and "Across the Pond" ) and delighted in technology - specifically Apple/Macintosh products , design software, surfing the internet, or anything with an LED readout . She loved Tai Chi, water aerobics and all things graceful, small and of understated elegance. A Memorial Service and Celebration will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2015.
