Obituary of Heather Stewart Denler
Former Grosse Pointe Farms resident Heather Stewart MacDonald Denler, 94, died peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2015, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Bloomfield Hills.
She was born March 23, 1921, in Edinburgh, Scotland to James Bell Stewart and Anne MacDonald. She attended the Beacon School and was sent to the United States when Britain entered the war in 1938.
Mrs. Denler was a runway model, actress, singer and fashion commentator. She worked for the J. L. Hudson Fashion Bureau for over 25 years and remained active on the runway and the stage well into her seventies.
She loved music, theater, art and literature, and was very active in her church and her community.
She was a life member of the Fine Arts Society of Detroit and a former member of the Country Club of Detroit, the Grosse Pointe Historical Society, the Theatre Arts Club and Ibex.
Mrs. Denler is survived by her daughter Bonnie, son John H. Denler Jr., grandsons Tom (Keri) and Andrew, her sister-in-law Jane Cruickshank as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John H. Denler, her brother Kenneth J. Cruickshank and her sister Jean Sharp.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
