I am so sorry for your loss. My husband Bob and I spent 10 days down in the Caribbean,St.John,St.Thomas,on his great sailboat! In fact, my son is being married in St John and I wanted to tell Jim about it! I have been trying to find him for the last 4 yrs but had only his Crowley address. He was a great and fun person. I just decided to enter his name on Internet and found this. !

Jim and I were both counselors in the same middle school for several years. He had a very positive influence on some of his students.

Mr. Gilster was my swimming coach at Derby JHS and Groves HS in Birmingham. He took the time to know every member of our teams. He was very good at explaining the techniques of the strokes we swam, and he encouraged us to do our best. I really looked up to this man.

I remember Mr. Gilster as a wonderful teacher and coach at Birmingham Groves High School. Recall the story of him living on his boat during his retirement years. RIP, Mr. Gilster.
