Obituary of Dorothy Hyland Fischer
Dorothy Hyland Fischer, formerly of Naples, Florida, and more recently of Farmington Hills, Michigan, died September 13, 2008, with loving care from Hospices of Henry Ford. A graduate in economics from Duke University and a former beauty queen, she is survived by her sister, Mary Elizabeth Van Arsdale of Naples, FL; children Robert Gantt (Kathleen Murphy) of Royal Oak, MI, Mary Gantt of Houston, TX and Georgia Gantt of Asheville, NC; and two grandchildren, Frances Murphy and Charlie Gantt, both students at Michigan State University. She loved dolls, art, bridge and sewing. Through the years she won awards in photography from both the Sierra Club and from Kodak. She especially enjoyed teaching bridge, bead-making and sculpy-roses, a talent her young grandchildren demonstrated to school-mates. She recently became an avid jewelry maker. She held leadership positions at Detroit Baptist Manor, where she has resided the last four years and where she leaves many friends.
