Obituary of Adele Alexander
On Sunday August 31st, 2014 dear Adele Alexander left us to return home. Her anniversary of 64 years was just two days away with her beloved husband John Robertson (Iain) Alexander. She leaves behind a brood of seven children, including first born, daughter Tobi Elizabeth, follow by six sons: Robin James, Benjamin David, John Kristin, Eric Robertson, Malcolm Paul, and Adam Stuart. Grandkids include: Karis Elizabeth, and Peter Jacob (of Robin). Jack Benjamin (of Benjamin), Eddie and Anthony, (of John) and Lindsey Lucille, and Lauren Adele (of Malcolm). Great grandkids include, Delaney Elizabeth, Carter John, Andrew James and Logan Alexander, (of Karis, daughter of Robin).
Adele was born on in London, England in 1927 and raised in Amherstburg, Ontario. She was one of only three women admitted and graduated from the University of Western Ontario. (Then Assumption College). Her Bachelor of Arts degree had an emphasis on child psychology. Adele became a pre-school teacher in Royal Oak, with the Royal Oak Co-Op nursery, where she began teaching in 1955.
Her education was certainly not the only thing in life that brought all of us her breadth of knowledge. Interests in the arts, writing, poetry and social studies, including justice for all were always just a moment away in conversation. Her ability to listen with an open mind and an open heart drew people to her as a confidant and an advisor.
Adele was an active contributor and donor to the Boys Club of Royal Oak. After the kids were grown and into their own lives, Adele enjoyed bowling in her league, and was an avid golfer.
Crossword puzzles were never far away. On into retirement years, Adele and Iain were the first owners (with partners) in The Four Green Fields Irish Pub, located in the Northwood Center on 13 Mile and Woodward in Royal Oak.
In future years they would go on to be managing general partners in The Mr.B's Farm. (Formerly the Goat Farm) in Novi, Michigan). Many wonderful friendships and relationships of long standing were formed and enjoyed by all over the years in the industry. Her final years were enjoyed at home with Iain and constant visits from their children.
In lieu of flowers, please forward all donations to The South Oakland County Boys and Girls Club.
